This museum quality Burmese lacquer ware food box, comes from the city of Bagan. The artist is Maung Aung Myin. This gentleman is a 5th generation artisan who because of his true methods and attention to detail has been commissioned by the British Museum.
This food box has the main body, an inner lid and a bowl lid on top. It is in the traditional black lacquer with red under-layer. The incredibly fine artistry of circles cover the base and the lid. The inner lid has a elephant in full festival attire.
